American Newspeak
Self-described "weekly satirical e-zine celebrating the Orwellian face" of
our times, full of prime examples scavenged from actual newspaper articles. People with paranoid tendencies should tread with caution. |
Anger Central
Popular forum for people who need to rant. Everything's alphabetically
arranged within each category. But try our own Cynic's Message Board first.
At least we listen. |
The Assertive
Introvert
It's about time somebody stood up for the oppressed introverts of the world! This thoughtfully amusing site includes tongue-in-cheek survival skills for introverts and a growing "Page O' Rants." |
|
B.S. Pyle
Enjoy the folksy, laid-back cynicism of columnist B.S. Pyle (no relation to Gomer), who lives on Goat Island, Texas, and used to be paid by the government not to grow Brussels sprouts. |
Callahan Online
America's most relentlessly tasteless cartoonist includes a brief
autobiography, a sampling of the hate mail he generates, and a daily example
of his sardonic drawings. |
The Comedy Zone
"Dedicated to those who don't take things too seriously and have way too much
free time." Includes a regularly updated humor links page. |
The Decline of Civilization: News for the Paranoid
A site I can relate to! Self-described "journal of the horrendous, humorous
and absurd" features cool graphics and depressingly funny examples of the
worst in human behavior. The "Literacy" section includes some of the most
painfully hilarious real-life examples of fractured writing I've ever seen. |
Despair, Inc.
At last, an online store that specializes in "demotivation" products! The perfect antidote to all those smarmy motivational posters that assault you from the walls of your boss's office.
|
The Devil's Dictionary The greatest cynical lexicon by a dead author, maybe even by ANY author -- now available for your perusal online. |
The Dilbert Zone Needs no introduction, but if you want to get there from here, be my guest. |
|
|
The Godling's Glossary
A cynical online dictionary that perpetuates the irascible spirit of St.
Ambrose (Bierce, that is). Appropriately hellish design. |
Ian Shoales Archive
Delve into the complete collection of Salon Magazine columns by this noted curmudgeon, who for some reason no longer writes for Salon Magazine. First-rate topical humor, written with verve, style and abundant spleen. |
Interesting Ideas A first-rate compilation of incisive and literate pop-culture commentary; includes "Rants," "Raves," and some truly weird "Outsider Art." |
The Mencken Page Ideal introduction to the most entertaining cynic of the twentieth century, complete with lengthy quotations. |
|
Noonan's Broke & Brilliant Web Site Whimsical (and yet oddly practical) survival tips for intelligent down-and-outers, from the mind of a genial cynic/comic. |
The Onion
Probably the most famous humor 'zine on the web, at least for now. You might chuckle over the tongue-in-cheek news stories, updated weekly. While you're at it, check the reviews of noteworthy films, books, music, and what-have-you. A spiffy site, but methinks its fame doth exceed its virtues. The
Outrage
What's the outrage of the day? Read today's column and bust a gut. A cynic's feast. |
|
Random Access Humor 96
A sharply written, proudly "politically incorrect" humor 'zine with
entertaining parodies, dialogues and commentaries. Regularly updated despite
the title. |
|
|
suck
This drop-dead edgy e-zine used to serve up a fresh new column of slickly written
pop-culture commentary every weekday. It died in December 2000, the same month
that Bush was elected by the U.S. Supreme Court. Was it just a coincidence?
In any case, the complete archives are still online for your perusal, and
the site is STILL more popular than this one. Go figure.
|
Wall O' Shame
Great compilation of true stories, ads, letters, news tidbits and articles
guaranteed to have you shaking your head with amused disbelief. O tempora!
O mores!
|
| And now for a bunch of worthy sites created by regulars & alumni of the Cynic's Message Board: |
|
I-Mockery.com
Scathing, mischievous, hilarious brainchild of the young cynic fondly
known in these parts as RoG. His motto: "Eat the cows. Destroy
the planet. Kill yourself." Highlights include "Meatatarians Unite!",
"Scotland's Conquest of the World!", and "Wok This Way" (which you HAVE to
read). Be sure to check out his Cynical Greeting Cards and other merchandise, too!
This hugely popular site has been growing faster than Las Vegas, so you'll
want to visit regularly and check out the latest mirth.
|
Scathing Scatological Screeds
Rob Anderson, longtime Message Board Regular and self-described progressive leftist, has assembled a growing collection of well-chosen links and articles adorned with incisive commentary. For his own rants, check out Scathing Scatological Screeds About Culture. |
One Brick Short
Fractured news, wit and whimsy from the fertile mind of stand-up comic and humor columnist Ian Wolff, who interviews a show-biz savvy Godzilla and reflects on growing up Irish, among other things. |
The Void
Our own "Pooh" sets out to "create confusion, practice cognitive dissonance." This Aussie Extraordinaire has compiled an appealing miscellany with stylish visuals, spirited travel memoirs, and a page of intriguingly cryptic reflections (see "Self-Indulgence").
No longer updated, from what we can tell. |
